Rutherford + Chekene (R+C) is actively seeking an entry-level structural designer to perform the following:

  • Seismic bracing of MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) distribution systems (duct, conduit, and pipe)
  • Seismic anchorage of medical and MEP equipment
  • Opportunities also include new construction and renovation/tenant improvement (TI) projects, which involve metal stud framing design, and design and coordination of architectural components and attachments

Job Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3). A master’s degree or 5-year Architectural Engineering degree, a plus
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Solid academic coursework in Seismic Design, Structural Dynamics, Steel Design, Concrete Design, Statics, and Engineering Mechanics  
  • Solid analytical and detailing skills
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling programs, such as Revit and AutoCAD 3D
  • Familiarity with Mathcad, Risa or related software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Familiarity with seismic design of nonstructural components per ASCE Chapter 13 and OSHPD CBC “A” Chapters, a plus
