Marko Schotanus, SE, LEED AP

At R+C, Marko has focused on seismic evaluations and retrofits. Recent projects include the renovation and seismic retrofit of Oakland International Airport’s Terminal 1, the seismic hazard evaluation of Seattle’s Federal Center South, and the retrofit of the Frank Hagel Federal Building in Richmond, and a seismic risk mitigation program for the City of Palo Alto. His experience as a prime consultant has deepened his understanding of the design and construction process, and makes him a strong team player on any project. 

Marko is an expert in numerical modeling of reinforced concrete structures for static and dynamic nonlinear analysis. He has been an active partner in national and international research programs that involved full scale testing of reinforced concrete structures. He has brought this knowledge to several seismic peer review projects of high-rise concrete wall structures in Seattle, San Francisco and Sacramento, and to many performance-based seismic evaluation and retrofit projects.

 

Reducing Risk
Marko advocates for seismic risk reduction, is involved in development of commentaries and standards for evaluations and retrofits. He volunteers within many professional organizations on existing building committees. Marko is a recipient of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California’s (SEAONC) Giles Scholarship, an award that acknowledges initiative by young members, and the Edwin G. Zacher Award for outstanding recent services and contributions to SEAONC.
