The Pier 2 rehabilitation involved seismic strengthening of the existing building, adding new mezzanines, minor upgrades to the existing Cowell Theater, and renovating the box office. The design aimed to minimize disruption to continuing operations of the Herbst Pavilion during construction. The project involved renovation and repair of exterior concrete shear walls in a marine environment. Rutherford + Chekene provided structural engineering services for the project and is currently providing tenant improvements within the building for the San Francisco Art Institute's graduate program.
