Senior Structural Design Engineer, San Francisco, CA, United States

Responsibilities include: 

Participate in and/or lead: Development of project design criteria; development of energy efficient designs; development of analysis model; communication with the architect and other members of the project design team for coordination of design; reviewing cost estimates in the design phase of the project; construction administration activities such as responding to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, communicating with and directing contractors.

Technical Knowledge and Documentation Presentation:

• Drawings: Assist in creating a sheet list/cartoon drawing set at the beginning of a project that incorporates required plans, typical details, and recognizes the needs for specialized details. Set up project plans and bring in typical details. Develop non-typical, project specific details with the assistance of project manager and/or principal.
• Calculations: Assemble a complete set of calculations.
• Specifications: Assist in ensuring consistency between project scope and specifications; assist in writing project unique specifications.
• Analysis: Be familiar with typical analysis projects, able to set-up models and debug.
• Compute load requirements and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
• Develop materials testing programs.
• Assist project managers with work plans for each phase and monitor its execution.
• Deliver project on time and on budget, and as needed, identify scope creep.
• Manage client relationships and expectations, and develop relationships with architect/consultant/contractor counterparts.
• Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications.
• Train and mentor new structural engineering graduates and interns.

Work from home permitted up to 3 days per week.

May supervise 0-2 structural designers. 

Travel: 5 to 10% within Northern California

Requirements:  

Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with concentration in structural engineering, or related field and five years of experience as a Design Engineer, Staff Engineer, Project Engineer, or related role. Must have 5 years of experience with:

• Design of concrete  (including pre-stressed or post-tensioned), steel, masonry and wood structures;
• Development of technical approach and design criteria for projects;
• Development of analysis model using SAP;
• Use of AUTOCAD and MATHCAD;
• Development of construction documents.
• Must have any amount of coursework, training, or experience with nonlinear analysis, finite element analysis, MATLAB, and REVIT
• Minimum GPA 3.75 for Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with concentration in structural engineering, or related field

Required License/Certification: P.E. License

The salary range for this position is $131,418–$134,950, 40 hrs/week.
