The Kresge College Renewal Project aims to expand and modernize the college to meet the needs of its growing population. First opened to students in the early 1970s, much of the college’s infrastructure is now in need of significant repair and updates to meet the needs of today’s students as well as current accessibility standards.
R+C is providing structural engineering services for the Design-Build team. The project’s scope includes the demolition and replacement of seven residence buildings, the construction of two new buildings—a six-story structure with offices and student apartments and a single-story Town Hall student lounge/gathering hub—and the seismic upgrade of five buildings. By incorporating prefabrication and mass timber, the Design-Build team has been able to maximize both sustainability and efficiency.
