CSU Chico | Wildcat Recreation Center

Chico, CA

The 110,245 sf building provides a new 300-foot-long gymnasium with a suspended running track, a two-story recreational facility, and a 10-lane pool. The recreational facility is connected to the gym by an open atrium containing a two-story climbing wall. The building is steel frame with metal deck and concrete fill floors. R+C designed the seismic system, which utilizes unbonded braces. The Geopier foundation provides an economical alternative to conventional drilled piers. Joint structural and architectural building information models were used for design and clash detection to meet an aggressive one-year schedule for bid documents. The center is LEED Gold certified.
